I am a member of the Society of Floral Painters and graduate with distinction of the Society of Botanical Artists. Over the years painting and drawing flowers, fruit and vegetables has developed from an interest into a passion.
After many years of working in watercolour I turned to oil to try something different. I wanted to experiment with working to a larger scale whilst still trying to capture detail, character and delicacy.
Initially working in monochrome - taking away colour to concentrate on the fluidity of the medium and detail of the subject - and then moving on to introduce colour. Choosing which to use has been dictated either by the vibrancy of an image where only colour will reflect the personality and spirit of the plant or where contrast of light and shade are such a fundamental part of the image that only black and white will suffice.
